Probably you have noticed that magazines, newspapers, and web designers are combining several photos to create a really great collage. Would you like to be able to do that?

Well, you can. With Adobe Photoshop you have everything you need to create amazing digital collages from multiple photos. Photoshop has become the choice of professionals for editing and manipulating digital photography.

The merging of two or more photos into one is becoming the standard in the graphics industry. Everywhere you look you can see examples of this. If you are a web designer, a photographer, or a graphic artist, learning to merge these images yourself will be of great benefit.

The first thing you need to do, before you actually start working on your digital collage, is to spend some time planning your final image. What do you want it to be? Knowing Photoshop is important, but it is just as important to plan and lay out your image before you begin using Photoshop.

You will want to use the Layers Function in Photoshop. This is the perfect function for allowing you to experiment with the different options.

Here are the areas to consider when planning a photo collage image.

Take time to chose your photographs. This is important, because the images that are merged should be somewhat complimentary. They may be of the same general theme, they may have the same setting, or they may be of a similar color scheme. Considering these things will result in a more professional final image. Photoshop’s “eyedropper” function allows you to check and look for colors that are complimentary.

After you have decided which photos you are gong to use, you will need to think about the composition. Browsing the Internet to find some examples of digital collages that you really like is a good way to start. Really look at them. What about the image really attracts you? Is the message intended by the advertiser or artist relayed? Consider the composition. What is it that makes the images blend together so well?

With Adobe Photoshop, you can work in multiple layers. This function allows you to spend some time playing around with your composition. You are able to get it right before it is placed permanently.
